Join us on April 29 for the first part of our series, Redistricting and Reapportionment 2021: A Community Series to Educate, Empower and Engage. Part 1, Redistricting and Reapportionment 101, will focus on the meaning behind redistricting and what it means to everyday residents.
Redistricting is the process by which new congressional and state legislative district boundaries are drawn. Each of Georgia's 14 United States Representatives and 236 state legislators are elected from political divisions called districts.
District lines are redrawn every 10 years following completion of the United States census. The federal government stipulates that districts must have nearly equal populations and must not discriminate on the basis of race or ethnicity.
